Bongi Sibanda DNPc MSc ANP RN FHEA, an educator, healthcare consultant & Advanced Nurse Practitioner with special interests in Interprofessional Education/Collaborative Practice (IPECP) and Health Policy. My areas of clinical and teaching expertise are in advanced practice, emergency and primary care, research ethics and clinical leadership.
I have served in senior nursing leadership roles at regional and international levels. I was a Co-Chair for the Practice Subgroup and a Core Steering Group member of the International Council of Nurses – Nurse Practitioner/APN Network. I currently serve at the African Interprofessional Education Network (AFrIPEN) responsible for policy development work and currently collaborating with international colleagues at the Interprofessional.Global Policy Working Group updating the WHO(2010) Framework for Action on Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice/the Sidney declaration on IPECP.
I am registered to practice in the UK and Zimbabwe, working in clinical practice and academic settings. My previous roles include working as an Academic Tutor for international nursing students (BSc) at the University of Sunderland-London and as a Senior Lecturer (MSc Advanced Clinical Practice) at London South Bank University. I currently serve as an OSCE Examiner at Barts and The London School of Medicine & Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London.
I am a recipient of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) International Ambassador 2018 Award. Following the award, l subsequently collaborated with international colleagues/organisations, initiating the Africa Anglophone Advanced Practice Nursing(APN) Coalition Group formation and leading the APN Proposal Project submitted to WHO AFRO in September 2018. I am also a Nurse Leader member – Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Phi Mu Chapter and founder of APN Africa CIC, a social enterprise supporting and promoting APN development in Africa – our current foci are on developing Afrocentric Family Nurse Practitioner and Advanced Practice Midwifery roles.
My qualifications include a BSc (Hons) Public Health & Health Promotion, RCN Accredited ANP with a MSc–Primary Care (Advanced Nurse Practitioner) qualification from Queen Mary, University of London. I am on my final Doctor of Nursing Practice Project at Queen’s University Belfast focusing on Educational Leadership in Advanced Clinical Practice. I am member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), Royal College of Nursing (RCN), Fellow of The Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a founding member of the Society of Nurse Scientists Innovators Entrepreneurs & Leaders (SONSIEL).
I am committed to the visibility of nursing leadership from ‘bedside to the boardroom’ and look forward to working with you all to achieve this for better population health outcomes across Africa Africa.
