Course Summary

The Minor Injuries course is suitable for healthcare professionals working in advanced roles in urgent and primary care. We offer an eLearning Course consisting of recordings covering all the subjects from he live webinar and classroom courses. The introductory 3 day classroom course is suitable for clinicians who are new to seeing and treating minor injuries. Sessions explores assessment and treatment of upper and lower limb injuries with a focus on clinical decision-making, red flags and appropriate management. Some of the content are recorded webinars with 3 month access to give you flexibility to learn at your own pace. We also offer related courses such as Plastering and Suturing, Upper and Lower Limb X-Ray Interpretation and Wound Care as stand alone sessions.

 Course Content

  • Shoulder: History-taking, red flags, ROM testing, AC joint & rotator cuff assessment
  • Elbow: Fracture/dislocation recognition, red flag awareness
  • Wrist & Hand: Sprains, fractures, soft tissue injury management, neurovascular checks, splinting
  • Knee: Meniscal & ligament injuries, Lachman’s & McMurray’s tests
  • Ankle & Foot: Fracture identification, Ottawa Ankle Rules, Achilles tendon injuries
  • Use of clinical decision-making tools and evidence-based practice in patient assessment
  • Head injuries: NICE guidelines, red flag recognition
  • Cervical spine clearance: Canadian C-Spine Rule, immobilisation techniques
  • Basic principles of musculoskeletal x-rays
  • Identifying fractures and joint injuries
  • Classification, initial assessment, first aid for burns
  • Dressing selection, minor wound closure, wound healing
  • Safeguarding & documentation

Pre Requisites

  • Have a UK or overseas degree from a recognised institution or equivalent professional or other qualification.
  • Hold professional registration with the relevant Nursing or Allied Health Professional Body/Council or the GMC.
  • You will normally have a minimum of 3 years post-registration experience in a relevant care environment.
