This course offers an in-depth exploration of physical examination techniques essential for healthcare professionals. It combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, aiming to enhance diagnostic accuracy and patient care. Suitable for pharmacists and those undertaking the prescribing course and wish to develop their physical examination skills. Suitable to be undertaken before the Minor Illness course.

Aim:

To equip registered healthcare professionals with comprehensive skills and knowledge necessary for conducting thorough and effective physical examinations.

    1. Enhance understanding of the principles and techniques of physical examination.
    2. Develop proficiency in conducting systematic and focused physical assessments.
    3. Improve diagnostic accuracy through the integration of physical findings with clinical history.

  1. Introduction to Physical Examination
    • Overview of physical examination importance.
    • Basic principles and ethical considerations.
  2. Systematic Approach to Examination
    • Head-to-toe examination technique.
    • Infection control and patient comfort.
  3. Cardiovascular Examination
    • Heart inspection, palpation, and auscultation.
    • Identification of common cardiac conditions.
  4. Respiratory System Examination
    • Inspection, palpation, percussion, and auscultation of lungs.
    • Recognising normal and abnormal respiratory sounds.
  5. Abdominal Examination
    • Techniques for inspecting, palpating, and auscultating the abdomen.
    • Identifying signs of abdominal pathologies.
  6. Neurological Examination
    • Assessment of cranial nerves, motor and sensory systems, and reflexes.
    • Identifying neurological deficits.
  7. ENT and Eye Examination
    • Examination of the  eye, nose, throat, and ears
    • Formulating differential diagnoses.
  8. Simulation and Clinical Practice
    • Hands-on practice sessions with simulators and standardized patients.
    • Feedback and skill refinement.
