I was recently asked to provide a talk on Anaphylaxis to school teachers following an incident when a child had an anaphylactic reaction to macaroons. The child was allergic to nuts and while the macaroon appear nut free, it was made of almond flour. I realised how little most people understood allergies and intolerances. I have also heard of parents who sneak peanut butter into their childrens sandwich if the school has banned peanuts. This is especially worrying especially having treated children with nut allergies. Education is key.
This week we have Dr Pravi Moodley who is visiting from South Africa. Dr Moodley is a virology consultant at a large teaching hospital. He will be talking doing a short talk on allergies on 2 April 2019 in Wembley. This will be followed by an Update on HIV.
Dr Moodley and I usually provide free teaching sessions in schools to educate the staff on allergies and anaphylaxis. It is amazing the major gaps in knowledge in peoples understanding of allergy and intolerance. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to book a place.
