Vaccinations Update, Injection Technique and BLS 1 June 2024

Course Summary This vaccinations update course is for healthcare professionals such as pharmacists who administer vaccines and injections. Session includes practical injection technique course and basic lifr support with practice on a mannequin and anaphylaxis training.

Who Should Attend?

 The vaccinations  update is suitable for  registered healthcare professionals, healthcare assistants, assistant practitioners and clinical assistants who have been delegated a role in immunisation and mentored by an appropriately trained registered healthcare professional.

Pre-Requisites

  • Must be working in a clinical environment that supports completion of clinical competencies.
  • Competion of ELFH modules on vaccinations, storage, cold chain and care of vaccinations and medication.

Aims This course aims to update your knowledge and confidence in providing information and safe, effective vaccines and injections with a good understanding of CPR and anaphylaxis.

Objectives

  • Update knowledge and confidence in providing current information on administering injections and vaccinations to parents/patients.
  • Have an awareness of the current guidelines and Department of Health’s recommendations on vaccinations and injections such as vitamin B12, covid vaccines and other injections.
  • Update knowledge of  current issues and changes to the covid19 vaccination schedule  and administration of injections such as Vitamin B12 and pneumococcal.

Course Content

  • HCSWs and current issues in vaccinations.
  • Recent epidemiology of relevant vaccine preventable diseases
  • Current changes to the recommendations or national policy and  legislature relevant to vaccination
  • Review of current practice and identification of areas for improvement
  • Understanding the importance of providing accurate and up-to-date information about the relevant diseases and vaccines to patients
  • Consider the requirement for reassessment of competency in administration of vaccines
  • Review recognition and management of anaphylaxis, appropriate management of adverse reactions and the requirement to undertake mandatory training in basic life support
  • Vaccines that are commonly administered by pharmacists.
