This Advanced Practice Minor Illness Management Course is a comprehensive 3-day online programme designed for healthcare professionals working in primary care, general practice, urgent care, and community settings.

The course supports clinicians who assess, diagnose, and manage patients presenting with common minor illness conditions, helping them develop safe autonomous practice, strong clinical reasoning, and confident decision-making.

Delivered by experienced GP, emergency medicine, and specialist clinicians, the programme combines live interactive webinars, case-based learning, and recorded e-learning modules. The focus is on red-flag recognition, evidence-based management, safe prescribing, and effective safety-netting.

Course Content

Day 1 – ENT & Respiratory

  • ENT conditions: ear pain, otitis externa/media, sinusitis, sore throat, tonsillitis, nasal obstruction

  • Respiratory illness: acute cough, bronchitis, asthma, COPD, breathlessness

  • Key red flags: sudden hearing loss, quinsy, pneumonia indicators

Day 2 – Gastrointestinal & Gynaecology

  • Gastrointestinal conditions: constipation, diarrhoea, IBS, reflux, gastritis

  • Gynaecology: menstrual disorders, vaginal discharge, contraception, pelvic pain

  • UTI management: NICE & UKHSA guidance, dipstick interpretation

  • Critical red flags: ectopic pregnancy, appendicitis, GI bleeding

Day 3 – Headaches, Dermatology & Clinical Decision-Making

  • Back and neck pain: mechanical vs neurological causes

  • Joint pain: inflammatory vs non-inflammatory MSK conditions

  • Headaches & migraine: diagnostic criteria, red flags, acute management

  • Dermatology: eczema, impetigo, cellulitis, shingles, urticaria, allergic rashes
  • Clinical reasoning: case discussions, documentation standards, safety-netting scripts
