Head injuries are frequently encountered in minor injuries units, urgent care centres and emergency departments. Although many injuries are minor, early recognition of potentially serious intracranial injuries is essential to prevent complications and ensure patient safety.

This focused 30-minute update provides a practical, evidence-based approach to assessing and managing adult patients presenting with head injuries. The session will cover common mechanisms of injury, structured neurological assessment, recognition of red flags and the application of current NICE guidance to support decisions regarding CT imaging, observation and referral.

Using clinical scenarios, Dr Parmy Deol will highlight key assessment findings, common diagnostic challenges and appropriate management and safety-netting strategies.

Silver trauma refers to traumatic injuries in older adults, often resulting from low-energy mechanisms such as falls from standing height. Despite apparently minor mechanisms, these injuries can cause significant morbidity and mortality, particularly in patients with frailty, multiple comorbidities or those taking anticoagulant medication.

Older adults may present with subtle or atypical symptoms, making the recognition of serious injuries particularly challenging in minor injuries and urgent care settings.

This focused 30-minute session explores the unique considerations involved in assessing and managing trauma in older adults. Particular attention will be given to the impact of frailty, anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapy, altered physiological responses and the risk of occult injuries.

Cervical spine and neck injuries are commonly encountered in emergency departments, minor injuries units and urgent care settings. Recognising potentially serious injuries while avoiding unnecessary investigations is essential for safe and effective clinical practice.

This interactive one-hour session provides a practical, evidence-based approach to assessing and managing patients presenting with neck injuries. Participants will explore common mechanisms of injury, clinical assessment techniques, neurological examination and the identification of red flags that may indicate significant cervical spine pathology.

The session will also examine the application of the Canadian C-Spine Rule and relevant NICE guidance to support imaging decisions, alongside appropriate initial management, referral pathways and safety-netting.

Burns are commonly encountered in minor injuries units, urgent care centres, emergency departments and primary care. Accurate assessment and appropriate initial management are essential to minimise complications, promote wound healing and identify patients requiring specialist intervention.

This interactive one-hour update provides a practical, evidence-based approach to the assessment and management of burn injuries in adults and children.

The session will explore different types of burns, assessment of burn depth and total body surface area (TBSA), and recognition of injuries requiring urgent escalation or specialist burns referral. Particular attention will be given to appropriate first aid, wound management, dressing selection, pain relief and infection prevention.

Using clinical examples and case-based discussions, Nicole Lee will highlight common challenges in burns management, including recognising potentially serious injuries, avoiding common treatment errors and providing effective safety-netting advice.

The session aims to strengthen practitioners' confidence in making safe, evidence-based decisions when managing burns in minor injuries and urgent care settings.

To equip clinicians with up-to-date, evidence-based knowledge and practical skills for the safe assessment, management, and referral of bite injuries in UK clinical practice, in line with national guidance and current evidence.

The course is an Advanced Practice Minor Injuries Online Course designed to enhance clinicians’ skills in assessing and treating musculoskeletal and other minor injuries in urgent and primary care.

• It aims to develop the ability to identify and manage injuries such as fractures, soft-tissue injuries, burns, and head injuries using advanced clinical reasoning.

• Teaching covers assessment, examination, red-flag recognition, diagnostic tools, and safe escalation of care.

• Content includes upper and lower limb injuries, wound care, burns, bites, eye injuries, and evidence-based practice in injury management.

• The programme is delivered through structured e-learning with recordings, handouts, workbooks, and assessments, allowing flexible self-paced study.

• The course carries approximately 30 CPD hours and is designed for healthcare professionals working in urgent care, general practice, and similar frontline roles.
