Children can deteriorate quickly, and recognising when a presentation is more than a minor illness or injury is an essential skill for clinicians working in primary, urgent and community care.

This one-day live Paediatric Update webinar brings together experienced paediatric clinicians to provide a practical, case-based update on some of the most important presentations encountered in everyday practice.

Throughout the day, you will explore common childhood illnesses, developmental milestones and red flags, paediatric prescribing, childhood injuries and recognition of the seriously unwell child.

The emphasis is firmly on clinical practice: What should you look for? What are the red flags? What can be safely managed? When should you be concerned? And when does a child need urgent escalation?

Dr Jai Ghanapathy – Common GI Problems in Children

This two-hour session provides a practical approach to gastrointestinal presentations commonly encountered in primary and urgent care. It could cover infantile colic, reflux and GORD, constipation, vomiting, diarrhoea/gastroenteritis and recurrent abdominal pain, alongside recognition of dehydration and important presentations such as bilious vomiting, intussusception, pyloric stenosis and appendicitis.

Prescribing Medicines Safely in Children

A focused prescribing update addressing the particular challenges of prescribing for infants and children. The session will explore weight-based dosing, dose calculations, age and weight restrictions, choosing appropriate formulations, maximum doses, off-label/unlicensed medicines, common prescribing errors and communicating instructions clearly to parents and carers.

Dr Varun Kumar – Management of Eczema in Children

This practical session will focus on the assessment and management of childhood eczema in primary and urgent care, including recognising eczema across different skin tones.

Key areas will include emollient therapy, appropriate use and potency of topical corticosteroids, treatment of flares, recognising secondary infection, treatment escalation, steroid concerns among parents, practical advice for families and indications for dermatology referral.

Dr Charles Stewart –  Red Dot X-Ray Interpretation in children Upper Limb

A practical, case-based session focusing on the assessment of common childhood injuries, with particular emphasis on upper-limb injuries and paediatric X-ray interpretation.
