This one-day prescribing update provides healthcare professionals with a practical review of current prescribing guidance, medicines optimisation and safe medication management in community practice.
Designed specifically for independent and supplementary prescribers, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, nurses, pharmacists and AHPs, the course focuses on prescribing challenges encountered in Primary Care Networks, Virtual Wards, Urgent Community Response, district nursing, care homes and other community services.
Using practical case studies, delegates will explore high-risk medicines, antimicrobial stewardship, diabetes, respiratory prescribing, dermatology, cardiovascular disease and hypertension.

Polypharmacy, frailty, renal impairment, high-risk medicines, pain management, medication-related deterioration and medicines reconciliation following hospital discharge.
10:00–11:00 | Antimicrobial Stewardship in the Community

Topical corticosteroids, emollients, eczema, common skin infections, antimicrobial stewardship and recognising skin conditions across different skin tones.
15:00–16:00 | Cardiovascular Disease & Hypertension Prescribing Update
Current approaches to hypertension and cardiovascular risk management, including antihypertensive medicines, ACE inhibitors/ARBs, calcium-channel blockers, diuretics, statins, antiplatelets and anticoagulants. Includes renal and electrolyte monitoring, postural hypotension, frailty and cardiovascular polypharmacy.
Practical, Case-Based Prescribing Training
Throughout the day, delegates will work through realistic community scenarios involving acute kidney injury, dehydration, polypharmacy, infection, diabetes, respiratory deterioration, hypertension, anticoagulation and medication-related falls.
The focus is on practical decision-making: Should I prescribe, continue, adjust or withhold the medicine? What monitoring is required? Could medication be contributing to deterioration? When should I escalate?
