Course Overview

This hands-on, practical course equips healthcare professionals with essential life-saving skills to recognise and manage cardiac arrest and medical emergencies in both adults and children.
Delegates will learn and practise:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Recovery Position

  • Bag-Valve-Mask (BVM) ventilation

  • Use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

  • Recognition and management of anaphylaxis

This session is fully aligned with the Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines and CQC emergency preparednessrequirements.

Aims

  • Enable participants to confidently perform Adult and Paediatric BLS.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this practical session, participants will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the DRSABCD approach and initiate CPR according to RCUK guidance.

  2. Safely position an unconscious patient in the recovery position.

  3. Deliver effective chest compressions and rescue breaths using adult and child manikins.

  4. Use a bag-valve-mask (BVM) for assisted ventilation.

  5. Operate an AED safely in both adult and paediatric modes.

  6. Recognise and treat anaphylaxis, administering IM adrenaline safely.

  7. Communicate and escalate emergencies effectively within the clinical team.
