Course Content:

Day 1 – Foundations of UK Nursing Practice and the UK healthcare system.

  • Introduction to the UK healthcare system and the role of the registered nurse
  • Understanding the NMC Test of Competence (ToC)
  • The NMC Code and professional accountability
  • NMC Professional Values station
  • Communication and therapeutic relationships
  • Documentation standards
  • Consent, confidentiality and safeguarding

  • OSCE marking criteria and common reasons for failure

Day 2 – Clinical Assessment and Essential Nursing Skills

  • Person-centred assessment APIE assessment
  • NEWS2 scoring and case scenarios
  • Vital signs assessment and pain assessment
  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • Urinalysis
  • Fluid balance charting
  • Medication safety principles
  • Aseptic Non-Touch Technique (ANTT) and hand hygiene
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE)

Day 3 – Planning, Delivering and Evaluating Care

  • Care planning using the nursing process
  • Safe medication administration
  • Insulin pen administration
  • Oxygen therapy
  • Wound care
  • Catheter care
  • Anti-embolism stockings
  • Pre-operative checks
  • Documentation
  • Evaluation of care
  • SBAR communication and escalating patient deterioration

Day 4 – Latest NMC Clinical Skills and Mock OSCE

  • Practice of current NMC clinical skills stations
  • Realistic patient scenarios
  • APIE stations
  • Professional Values station
  • Evidence-Based Practice station
  • Time management
  • Examiner expectations
  • Individual feedback following each station
  • Coaching to improve performance

Day 5 – Full Mock Examination and Final Preparation

Course Format

 Online pre course sessions will be held to help you feel ready for the five-day course followed by a highly interactive programme combines theory with extensive practical application to ensure participants are fully prepared for the OSCE.  Participants receive comprehensive course materials, practical checklists, revision resources and guidance aligned with the latest NMC Test of Competence requirements.
